A bar rather than a cluster. Ninety centimetres of it, with four lights spaced along the length, which is the shape an island wants: even light down the bench instead of one bright pool in the middle.

The full drop is 131.6cm, and you set it where you want it. Over an island you want it high enough to see across and low enough to light the surface, which is a judgement made in the room rather than from a number.

Wood and matte black is a deliberately quiet combination. It reads farmhouse next to timber and industrial next to stone, which is why it survives a kitchen being redecorated around it.

It is dimmable with a compatible dimmer switch, and that is worth doing on an island: full brightness for cooking, low for the end of the evening.
